Playground Safety Standards Training - Level One
Target group: Early Childhood and Schools
This course is designed to give day to day centre educators full information on NZS 5828:2004 Playground Equipment and Surfacing Standard, including how to carry out Routine (daily) Audits to ensure the playground is safe while still allowing for risk taking.
At least one person from every centre is encouraged to attend.
Syllabus
- Accidents, their type, frequency and severity
- Legislation,
- Provision recommendations for playgrounds, play value, Disability Assessment, etc.
- Particular attention will be given to the Playground Standards in relation to early childhood centres -
- NZS 5828:2004, SNZ HB 5828.2:2006
- Documentation, reporting and importance of record keeping
- A logical and systematic approach to inspecting including risk assessment
- How to ensure the playground is safe while still allowing for risk taking
- Routine inspection of playgrounds within early childhood centres
- Practical on-site inspection if time permits
