New Early Learning Centre for Golden Sands

The CNI Early Education Services Trust has now signed a contract with Livingstone Building NZ Ltd to build their new childcare centre in Golden Sands, Papamoa. Building will commence at the end of June and the Trust expects to open the centre for children aged from 6 months to school age in early December this year.

Located on Crown land adjacent to the Golden Sands School (currently under construction) this new centre will provide an exciting educational and care environment staffed by qualified teachers. The Trust has eight other full day centres and contracts the Central North Island Kindergarten Association to manage them; their expertise ensuring a high quality education and care programme. When ready to start primary school children will have a smooth transition as the early childhood and primary teachers plan to work cooperatively to ensure they are already familiar with the school environment.

The not-for-profit, charitable Trust, has worked hard to secure the funds required to build this centre and is now looking for the support of local businesses and grant providers to help with the cost of fitting it out, landscaping the playground and purchasing resources. A Government discretionary grant of $25k contributed toward the planning and consent process however further Government funding is not available to assist with the building project.

Enrolment enquiries can be made by phoning 0508 454 633. Teaching and other staff positions will be advertised locally and in the Education Gazette.

Duffy Books Presentation - Tarrangower Kindergarten

A frosty night wasn't enough to keep the families of Tarrangower Kindergarten away from the inaugural Duffy Books Presentation. This is the first year the Kindergarten has been able to access the books in home programme so children and staff decided a celebration was in order.

The night began with a winter warmer, hot soup followed by delicious lasagne with more than 140 people enjoying a meal together. The children were then able to share their favourite learning experiences with their families; painting, carpentry, puzzles and lego were amongst the activities enjoyed.

Mozart played providing the cue that it was mat time and Sarah read one of the Duffy Books ‘Enoch the Emu', to the large group of listeners. Each of the enrolled children were presented with two books including titles such as "Paikea" and "The Day of the Rain", "Areta and the Kahawai" and "Stella to Earth."

A memo was sent to all staff advising them that the ban on excursions has been lifted effective from Monday, 3 August 2009.  Whilst the ban is lifted, attention to healthy practices such as thorough hand-washing is still imperative.  Also, that any staff or children displaying flu symptoms should stay at home until they are well.
